Welcome to my garden!
... This past spring I started germinating seeds in the kitchen and attic so I could start a garden in the backyard. Because this is my first year gardening (and I'm unsure how I want to design my backyard garden), I choose to start a "container garden" for this year's season. I thought this blog would be a fun way to visually document the growth of each plant... and eventually the transformation of my whole back yard! Thanks for stopping by and happy gardening! :)

Fernleaf Dill...

Germinated in late May; transplanted in early June. This is only about a third of what I germinated. While they were still in their other container more than half of them were turning yellow, so I moved them from the garden to the porch to figure out what the problem was. After doing some reading, I found out that they need to have a more acidic soil and the soil was neutral. Since I haven't had much luck with reducing the pH of any soil, my plan was to pull out the Dill and reuse the soil (and container) for more Garden Beans. But since they sat on the porch for so long, the shaded portion started doing better. So I decided to transplant the healthy Dill to this container and pull out the dying section to compost. Now the Dill is being moved to and from the porch so that it doesn't get as much sun as it was. It seems to be okay for now.
